The Hikiyama Event of Hita Gion was designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset by the national government in 1996, and was registered as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 2016.
The Hita Gion Yamaboko Kaikan was built to preserve the historical and traditional culture of the Hita Gion and to promote the festival.
The first floor has a display of the Shikayama mountain and the festival. The first floor displays the decorative floats and the floats that are pulled around the town during the festival, and the second floor displays equipment related to the Gion Festival, with a view of the floats from the atrium.
