The Murakami Medical Family was founded in 1640 by Sohaku, the first generation of the family, who opened a medical clinic in Moromachi and served as the official physician for the Nakatsu Clan and the Okuhira Family ever since.



The museum displays thousands of medical materials left by successive generations of the family, including historical documents related to human anatomy conducted by the late Edo-period head of the family, Murakami Gensui.



The museum aims to uncover the history of medicine and Dutch studies in Nakatsu and to improve the understanding and culture of the hometown that produced Maeno Ryosawa and Fukuzawa Yukichi.
