The former Maruge family residence is the residence of the Maruge family, who served as vassals of the Inaba clan during the Usuki domain for generations, and is estimated to have been built in the late Edo period (designated as a tangible cultural property building by Usuki City).
The main interior consists of the "front" space, such as the tatami room, where the master welcomes guests, and the "back" space, such as the kitchen and living room, where the residents live their daily lives. In addition, although there is only one entrance, the building is divided into the "front entrance" and the "inner entrance," which is characteristic of the samurai residences in Usuki. In order for the public to understand the culture of these samurai families, the museum is open to the public.
