The Usuki Stone Buddha (Magaibutsu), represented by the Koen Stone Buddha Dainichi Nyorai statue, is said to have been carved between the late Heian and Kamakura periods.
In 1995, it was designated as a National Treasure, the first such designation in Japan for a Magaibutsu and the first in Kyushu for a sculpture.
The stone Buddha group is divided into four groups, named Hoki Ishibutsu Group 1 (Dogasama Ishibutsu), Group 2 (Dogasama Ishibutsu), Sannozan Ishibutsu, and Koen Ishibutsu according to the name of the place.
In addition, from June to July, you can appreciate the lotus flowers in the lotus fields in the Ishibutsu Park.
